Mamata Banerjee’s cabinet accepted a resolution on Tuesday to rename state, in fact, located in eastern India, “Bengal” in English – one of India’s official languages.

The reports were confirmed by Trinamool Congress leader and state Education Minister Partha Chatterjee, who said a special assembly session will be organised on August 26 to talk about the name change.

Mamta Banerjee, 61, had complained that she rarely got an opportunity to discuss in meetings with Prime Minister Narendra Modi simply because West Bengal emerged at the end of a listing of India’s 29 states set up alphabetically.
