Union Minister Sushma Swaraj

External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj on Wednesday warns e-commerce giant Amazon to remove doormats showing the Indian flag, warning that the government will revoke visas provided to company officials.

This could possibly be among the rare cases when a multi-national company has been warned by a Union minister on Twitter.

The warning emerged after a Twitter user published a snapshot from Amazon Canada, which confirmed such doormats on sale, and tagged the Union minister.

With in a few mins, Sushma instructed the Indian High Commission in Canada to undertake the issue with Amazon Canada. “Indian High Commission in Canada : This is unacceptable. Please take this up with Amazon at the highest level (sic),” she tweeted.
Within just 30 minutes, in one more tweet, the foreign minister asked an unconditional apology from Amazon and asked the company to take out all such items.

“If this is not done forthwith, we will not grant Indian Visa to any Amazon official. We will also rescind the Visas issued earlier (sic),” she stated in a different tweet.
