Kulbhushan Jadhav

Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff, General Kamar Javed Bajwa, decides the life of Indian citizen Kulbhushan Jadhav, imprisoned for alleged spy on Pakistan. Sources in Pak Army said on Sunday that the army chief is examining the evidence to decide on the mercy petition of Jadhav after the military court sentenced him to death. It has been said that the army will decide on the basis of merit.

Jadhav last month gave mercy petition before the army chief Bajwa. A statement issued by the Inter Services Public Relations on 22nd June said that Jadhav had given mercy petition before the army chief after the petition was dismissed by the military court.

Pak Army spokesman Major General Asif Gafoor told reporters, “General Bajwa is investigating the evidence against Jadhav. He will decide on Jadhav’s application on the basis of merit.

It is noteworthy that the Pakistan military court had sentenced Jadhav to hang for allegedly alleged involvement in espionage and terrorist activities in April, but the international court in The Hague banned the sentence of hanging on India’s appeal in May.

Pakistan claims that he arrested Jadhav from Balochistan province on March 3 last year, while India has said that Jadhav was kidnapped from Iran where he was doing business. Pakistan says Jadhav is an officer of the Indian Navy and he was involved in several terror activities in Pakistan.

It is clear from India that Kulbhushan Jadhav is an Indian citizen and he has retired from Navy. A video of Jadhav’s alleged confessional statement has also been released twice by Pakistan’s army.

While the reality is that this video with alleged confession has many cuts and it has been shot with several cameras. India has said that this statement was forcibly given to Jadhav by torturing him.

India has so far sought 16 diplomatic access from Pakistan to Jadhav, but Pakistan has turned it down every time. In the meantime, Jadhav’s mother’s visa application has not been approved by Pakistan, on which people are asking questions in Pakistan itself.

Opinion of Pak media and lawyers

A day earlier, Pakistan’s leading newspaper ‘Don’ had given his government the editorial in the editorial and said that on the basis of humanity, the mother of Kulbhushan Jadhav should be given a visa. Further, with the reduction in relations, it is also possible to show that humanity is still alive. The newspaper said, “The meeting between mother and son is very different from the question of diplomatic approvals.”
