NGO Licences cancelled

The home ministry releases a listing of all NGOs that failed to honor the due date, stating their license was considered canceled from November 1, 2016. What this means is that they will no more manage to receive contributions from foreign donors.

The Union home ministry terminated the license of 11,319 NGOs on Thursday under the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA), 2010, following they failed to apply to its renewal inside due date of June 30, 2016. The validity of FCRA registration of those NGOs was extended till October 31, 2016 (the previous due date being September 30) vide a home ministry order dated March 29, 2016.

The 1,736 NGOs, which consist of some divisions of the Ramakrishna Mission, Mata Amritanandamayi Math and also the Krishnamurthi Foundation of India, were amongst all those who’d applied online for renewal of their registrations prior to June 30, 2016.

The ministry had canceled the registration of about 10,000 NGOs in 2015 as they hadn’t filled out FCRA returns for 3 years in a row.
